What is SAT?

The SAT® is a standardized test that measures mathematical, reading and writing skills of students aspiring to undergo their undergraduate studies in India and abroad. The test has 4 sections – Reading, Writing & Language, Math–No calculator and Math-Calculator. It also has an additional optional Essay section. The test intends to aid universities in assessing the potential of applicants for higher education. That is why more than 4000 colleges in US, India and 84 other countries accept SAT scores for admission to their programs. The examination is entirely paper-based and scored on scale from 400 to 1600. However, the SAT® score alone does not guarantee a student’s admission – the test is but one of the many factors taken into consideration during the holistic review of an applicant’s profile.

What is the scoring scale for the SAT®?

  1. The Mathematics section is scored on a scale of 200-800
  2. The Critical Reading section is scored on a scale of 200-800
  3. The Essay is scored separately on a scale of 2-8
  4. The entire SAT® test score ranges from 400-1600

It is important for our students to know that 1000 is the average score. However, to what extend is this score good for your target universities is another question that we can help you answer. Consider a student who is academically superb. SAT Subject Preparation

SAT – II Subject Tests are taken by students, apart from the general SAT, to demonstrate their mastery of specific subjects such as English, History, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and foreign languages.

Most Colleges and Universities usually require students to take between 2 and 3 SAT Subject Tests. The content of each test is not based on any one approach or curriculum but rather evolves to reflect current trends in high school course work. There is one score per test, on a scale of 200-800.

All the questions are exclusively multiple-choice. Some language tests involve a listening component.

SAT Subject Tests are the only national admission tests that measure students’ knowledge and skills in particular subject areas, and their ability to apply that knowledge. They are closely linked to the high school curriculum and have a proven track record of providing colleges with a highly reliable, objective assessment of student readiness for college-level work. The SAT Subject Tests give students an additional opportunity to distinguish themselves and showcase their skills in a particular subject area.

The SAT Subject Test in Physics, Physics SAT II, or simply the Physics SAT, is a one-hour multiple choice test on physics administered by The College Board in the United States. A high school student generally chooses to take the test to fulfill college entrance requirements for the schools at which the student is planning to apply.

The SAT Subject tests spread cross five different areas: Mathematics, English, Science, Languages and History, with a total of 20 subjects to choose from. Each tests lasts for one hour and is scored out of 800. They are administered on the same dates as the SAT test, at the same centers.

Students can choose which Subject Tests they wish to take, as well as how many. Most schools that require these tests are asking for 2 results, and they should preferably be from different areas. In choosing the subject you should consider your strengths, your passion as well as the particular major you are applying for.

Subject Tests are a great opportunity for you to showcase your knowledge in a certain area, which will convince the schools of your passion for the study discipline you wish to pursue. And since they are subjects you have been learning about in school, it should not be too much out of your comfort zone. Preparations for SAT Subject Tests revolves around understanding the strategies and approach, and with the proper guidance, you can achieve impressive scores.
